Snowbird guide: flying into Puerto Vallarta and reaching Yelapa
If you spend winters chasing Pacific light instead of prairie wind, Yelapa is a strong fit: village scale, boat arrival, and a slower clock than the Hotel Zone. This guide is for snowbirds and long-stay guests entering through Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR), then continuing by boat to Yelapa.
We own Casa Gratitud. The villa is typically open for guest stays Oct through Apr in the high season window.
Snowbird timing: December through March
Most snowbirds target December through March. You get dry-season habits on the bay, Whale Season in Yelapa, and fewer major tropical systems than early fall. January and February feel peak for many villas. Book lodging before you fall in love with a fare sale.
Airport to boat without drama
Land at PVR. Clear immigration and customs.
Take a taxi or prearranged transfer to Boca de Tomatlán (common for Yelapa pangas) or to Los Muertos Pier if that is your ticket. Boca often means a shorter water hop. Los Muertos suits guests already staying in the Romantic Zone first night.
Board the water taxi when navegación menor is open. Confirm the morning of travel after any storm week. Useful schedule reference:
Soft bags help. You will lift them onto a boat and again toward the villa.
